Vita Yachts Launch Fast-Charging All Electric Powerboat

As a yachting journalist who loves innovation and often gets to see the next new design before the public does, I’ve been following the dynamic world of electric yacht development with keen interest. But since I’m also a dad who cares about the health of our oceans and the condition of the planet we’re leaving to the next generation, I’m doing more than just covering all the new developments in electric yacht propulsion. I’m actually cheering each new company on because I believe every action we can take to ease the carbon burden we are putting on the planet is important.

I know that the people at Vita Yachts feel the same way. In fact, I’ve been following (and cheering for) Vita’s progress since the company auctioned off an early model at the Monaco Gala For The Global Ocean  in 2018.

So, I was quite excited to take Vita Yachts new 34-foot-long, high performance model for test drive when I was at the 2021 Monaco Yacht Show. It’s called the Vita LION and is billed as the first electric powerboat that’s compatible with fast DC charging that can shave hours of charge time when connected to a to the right high-speed charging station.

Designed by Borromeo de Silva in Milan, the Vita LION is a sexy day boat that  accommodate 8 guests in its large cockpit that can also be configured for dining. Meanwhile, the sun pad and bathing area provides ample room for relaxation, together with a shower and ladder for swimming. It’s also big enough to provide an enclosed cabin with day berth, bathroom, and sink as well as an integrated Fusion sound system throughout the boat.

“Our vision was to create a boat with no compromise in terms of user experience, performance and functionality while also ensuring zero impact on the marine environment in which it operates. With the LION we believe we have achieved this and are excited to be developing the most advanced electric powerboat built to date” says Rory Trahair, Vita CEO.

The LION has been operating in the South of France this summer, where the world’s first network of marinized charging stations for electric boats has been installed in Ventimiglia, Monaco, Cannes and St Tropez.
