Six-time European champions Bayern Munich travel to the Estadio de la Ceramica on Wednesday evening to face Villarreal in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Julian Nagelsmann's side are overwhelming favourites to progress against a Villarreal team playing only the third quarter-final in their history in this competition.

Yet Unai Emery has built an impressive side, one that, over the last 12 months, has recorded European wins over Juventus, Manchester United and Arsenal.

Villarreal vs Bayern Munich preview

The Yellow Submarine have been inconsistent in La Liga this season and that was evident at the weekend when they were beaten 2-0 at bottom side Levante.

Villarreal, however, will surely raise themselves for one of the biggest occasions in the club's history and Unai Emery's men have been strong at home this season.

Whether they have enough to compete with one of the continent's most complete teams remains to be seen but, against the likes of Manchester United and Juventus this term, the Spanish outfit have acquitted themselves admirably.

Bayern are understandably favourites and should have too much for their less illustrious opponents, although backing the hosts to get on the scoresheet should appeal.

The Bundesliga champions have only kept two clean sheets in their last 11 games in all competitions and have conceded in four of their last five European matches.

Villarreal vs Bayern Munich tips & predictions

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals is priced at 20/21 (1.98) while Bayern to win and concede is available at 2/1 (3.00).
